Comunidad Colombiana con el apoyo del Consulado de Colombia en New York se moviliza a ayudar a los Damnificados por el huracán Sandy

New York, 2 de Noviembre.
La comunidad colombiana ha expresado su preocupación y disposición de ayudar a las familias que resultaron afectadas por el huracán Sandy.

Con apoyo del Consulado de Colombia en New York, se ha lanzado una campaña que busca recoger AYUDAS que serán canalizadas a través de voluntarios en las comunidades que hoy padecen los rigores del agua, la falta de energía eléctrica y de combustible.

La Cruz Roja es la UNICA ENTIDAD a través de la cual los benefactores deben hacer sus donaciones de dinero. Si usted quiere ayudar, considere hacer una donación hoy mismo visitando http://www.cruzrojaamericanana.org o llamando al 1800-733-2767 o mandando un mensaje de texto con la palabra REDCROSS al 90999 para hacer una donación de $10.
Sus donaciones también pueden ser enviadas a la oficina local de la
Cruz Roja Americana o al P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.

Que podemos donar?

    Alimentos

    – Suministros de agua potable para tres días (un galón de agua por persona por día es una buena regla)

    – Comida que no necesite refrigerarse o cocinar

    – Abrelatas

    – Platos, vasos y cubiertos desechables

    – Blanqueador de cloro de uso doméstico y gotero para medicamentos.

    Procedimiento para purificar el agua: Cuando se diluyen nueve partes de agua por una parte de blanqueador, éste puede usarse como desinfectante. O en caso de emergencia, puede usarlo para purificar el agua: utilice 16 gotas de blanqueador líquido, de uso doméstico normal, por galón de agua. No use blanqueadores perfumados ni del tipo que no destiñe los colores. Tampoco debe usar blanqueadores con agentes de limpieza adicionales.

    Artículos para bebé, como fórmula para bebé, biberones y pañales

    Bolsa de dormir o manta abrigadora para cada persona.

    Ropa de cama, almohadas y cobijas.

    Alimentos, juguetes y platos para mascotas

    Salud y seguridad

    Elementos de primeros auxilios

    Entretenimiento y noticias

    Radio de baterías

    Fósforos en un recipiente a prueba de agua.

  • You can make a Difference: Volunteer
You can make a difference by offering your time. Several Haiti relief organizations are seeking volunteer assistance, especially those with prior disaster relief experience, those with Medical Training and those fluent in French and Haitian Creole. These organizations are accepting all applications:
• Center for International Disaster Information accepts applications for all types of volunteers. This database is then provided to agencies that are working in the disaster location. – CIDI Volunteer Hotline 703-276-1914
• International Medical Corps is quickly assembling additional medical teams to join their emergency response in Haiti. They also need non-medical volunteers for these teams and for their offices in Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., and London.
• Healing Hands for Haiti is looking especially for health care professionals. They are also accepting applications for support volunteers.
• Catholic Medical Mission Board is accepting applications for licensed healthcare professionals to volunteer in Haiti for either a short mission of a few weeks or a longer commitment of a year.
• National Nurses United has launched a relief effort to send registered nurses to Haiti. Their RN Response Network is accepting applications from Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners.
• Heart to Heart International is accepting Medical volunteers to go to Haiti. They need volunteers to assemble hygiene kits at their Global Distribution Center in Kansas City, KS.
• Beyond Borders has applications for medical professionals, translators, and volunteers with other skills to go to Haiti.
• Feed My Starving Children needs volunteers at their food-packing sites in the Twin Cities, MN and Chicagoland, IL.
• MedShare is calling for volunteers to help sort and pack surplus medical supplies at two daily volunteer sessions at their Distribution Centers located in Atlanta, GA and San Leandro, CA

  • Or you can go online to organizations like the Red Cross and Mercy Corps to make a contribution to the disaster relief efforts.
  • The State Department Operations Center has set up the following number for Americans seeking information about family members in Haiti: 1-888-407-4747 (due to heavy volume, some callers may receive a recording).
  • Our embassy is still in the early stages of contacting American Citizens through our Warden Network. Communications are very difficult within Haiti at this time.
